Learning For All Ages

Godly Play

Pre-K to 5th grade

Godly Play assumes that children have some experience of the mystery of the presence of God in their lives, but that they lack the language, permission, and understanding to express and enjoy that in our culture. In Godly Play, we enter into parables, silence, sacred stories, and sacred liturgy in order to discover God, ourselves, one another, and the world around us.
— Jerome Berryman, The Complete Guide to Godly Play

Godly Play meets on Sundays during the program year (September-May) during Formation Hour at 9:00 AM, in the Godly Play Room on the first floor.
Kids should be at least 3 years old and potty-trained.

Each Sunday in Godly Play looks roughly like this: after being greeted at the door by the doorkeeper, the children build a circle with the Storyteller, who begins to present the story. After the story, there is time for “wondering” and open questions about the story. Then the children choose their “work” for the day (children’s work is play!). Finally, they share a “feast” together. So, just like in church, the children share both a sacred story and a sacred meal.

It is important to be on time for Godly Play to begin at 9:00 am! Please plan to arrive by 8:50 am. Each class follows a special flow that is modeled after our church service, and once the story begins, it can be disruptive for other children to join the circle (though we do our best!).

Parents, please register your child for the 2024-25 year by filling out this form

For Youth

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
— Jeremiah 29:11

Youth in middle and high school gather for food and conversation on Sundays during the program year (September-May) during Formation Hour at 9:00 AM, in the Youth Room on the second floor. Together with their adult mentors, youth will explore big questions about faith, the world, and themselves in a supportive community of their peers.

Youth ministries at Christ Church are LGBTQ+ affirming.

Parents, please register your youth for the 2024-25 year by filling out this form.

Acolytes

Children and youth in grades 4 and above are invited to serve as acolytes at the 10:15 AM service each Sunday. Acolytes light candles, carry the cross, and assist the clergy at the altar during the Eucharist. We’ll teach you everything you need to know!

To sign up or learn more, please contact Rev. Sarah at curate@cccambridge.org

Young adults at Christ Church gather throughout the year for fellowship, connection, service, and worship. We welcome anyone in their 20s or 30s, as well as college students. In addition, young adults are always welcome to take part in any of the formation opportunities offered for adults in the parish (see below).
